Q: What was your life like before you got the vaccine?
I was healthy and active prior to the vaccine. Enjoyed volunteering for a K9 Search & Rescue group in Anchorage, Alaska, and hobbies that included stand up paddle boarding, fishing, hunting, bowling, working out in gym
Q: Would you like to share your reason(s) for getting the vaccine?
While, I received full vaccination prior to the mandate that took effect in September 2021, the ONLY reason I got vaccinated was because after 23 years of service to the U.S. government, I had absolutely zero doubt the U.S. government would mandate vaccination. In September if 2021, President Biden issued an executive order mandating federal employees to get fully vaccinated, and at the same time threatened to fire any federal employees who didn't comply.
Q: What was your reaction, symptoms, & timeline?
I unfortunately could not continue with my current employment due to a lower brachial plexus injury, which doctors at the Mayo Clinic now believe was induced by the Moderna covid vaccine. My injury began showing mild symptoms about 8 weeks after being fully vaccinated, but at 12 weeks after being fully vaccinated, I lost fine and gross motor skills of my left hand, which is my dominant hand. This was followed by muscle wasting in my left forearm and left hand. I lost my ability to perform the tactical operations needed for my current job. I underwent reconstructive surgery involving muscle and tendon transfer on February 22, 2024. Now, I have a very long road of physical therapy to endure.
Q: Tell us about any tests, diagnoses, and/or Medical Care received:
Numerous EMG tests, MRIs, other nerve conduction tests, spine fluid test, IVIG infusions (futile effort), 12 weeks of methylprednisolone infusions (futile effort), occupational therapy prior to surgery (futile effort), reconstructive hand surgery of my dominant left hand involving muscle and tendon transfer done in February 2024, now undergoing physical therapy post-surgery.
Q: Where has your reaction been reported?
VAERS
Q: Have you had Covid before?
I had Covid in June 2023. It was no worse than the flu for me.
Q: What do you wish others knew?
My advice: Persist in filing medical and religious exemptions to any and all vaccine requirements an employer may implement. If your employer imposes any vaccination mandates on you, they are only doing so because of their own fear. You need to look out for yourself, and not allow pressure to make you do something you do not feel is right.
