Debra Beall

First Dose of Pfizer on 7/25/21

San Ramon, CA

Q: What was your life like before you got the vaccine?

I was coming off just having my first child and about to go back to work in bartending and insurance as well as a mother to my son who was born the first week of the pandemic. I was extremely active be it snowboarding, kayaking, hikes working out daily 6 days a week and enjoying being a first time Mom. Unfortunately my mom got rediagnosed with Cancer during the pandemic and to lessen her worry I got the vaccine. I did have some trepidation’s and asked my medical team as well as questioned the pharmacist giving me the vaccine as I have had unexplained anaphylactic responses on random before as well as a undiagnosed autoimmune disorder. They guaranteed me it was completely safe for me.

Q: What was your reaction, symptoms, & timeline?

Within 30 min I started breaking out into a sweat (i rarely sweat when I exercise that much). Then I started going into extremes of hot and cold temperatures, felt dizzy and like I was going to faint. My hands went numb. Then my stomach completely seized up ( by this I mean it felt like I was being stabbed then it was just stuck in this pain that I could barely move). I felt brain fog and severe migraines as well. When I woke up the next day I could barely stay awake. My muscles started cramping under my rib cage on random. The next day the heart symptoms kicked in (no prior heart issues). I would get dizzy upon standing, exercise intolerance and noticed doing simple twists it felt like my heart would stop for a minute then immediately followed by deep tightening chest pain and electrical surges to all my limbs. As well as heart palpitations. By day 4 my stomach seemed to let go a bit so I was hopeful the rest was subsiding then day 5 the numbness in my hands progressed to my entire body head to toe. I went to the er because I’ve never had numbness in my life. The er dr treated me like I was crazy said my ekg was fine and bloodwork normal and sent me home. The next day my tongue swelled to three times it sizes for 2 days I was choking on my own tongue I couldn’t eat or get water down and barely talk. My lymph nodes I noticed were swollen as well. The heart symptoms progressively started getting worse and so I went back to the er. Again normal blood and ekg was sent home. I went to my regular doctor and demanded a holster monitor. A couple days in the heart monitor called me and said I need to rush to the er. They didn’t tell me why though. Apparently my heart had gone into 14 beats of vtach in the high 200’s upon standing. I was then admitted for 3 days. They looked for blood clots in my legs/ did a echo/ ekg/ blood tests. They couldn’t find anything. I then went back to my regular doctor to get referrals to immunology and have been on a waitlist for immunology for over 3 months now with no way to speed it up. My numbness is still present with sometimes only half my body being numb and half my body is ice cold while the other is hot. I still have all symptoms although some (very few) have progressed to waves. I break out in hives on random. I have crippling fatigue and have a hard time keeping up with my toddler. I can’t work because I’m being referred to 4 specialists cardiology/rheumatology/gastroenterologist/immunology and my pcp. EDS/MCAS are suspected but still waiting on referrals to get tested. They have done ultrasounds and a mri as well as a stress test and echo. So far no answers.

Q: What was your life like after you got the vaccine?

I can’t work or go anywhere because my county has strict mandates as well as they won’t offer medical exclusions. I am at the dr every other day while trying to take care of my kid at the same time. I have no idea what life will look like and I have no way of bringing in a income because I could only get 1 dose.

Q: Share your experience with any medical care and any diagnoses you have received:

Suspected Mast Cell Activation/Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and possible small fiber neuropathy and possible POTS. I’m still going through tons of testing.

Q: Was your reaction reported, and what was the response?

Cdc and VAERS. The CDC called me and advised me not to get more doses.

Q: Is there anything that has helped, and have your symptoms improved?

Nothing yet. I’m still going through red tape just to get referrals.

Q: What do you wish others knew?

I am not anti vaccine by any means. I really hope all this is reversible and that they can make medical exclusions available to those of us who need it. It’s not fair that because of medical issues we are forced to risk our lives knowingly or not be able to work or go anywhere.
