Q: What was your life like before you got the vaccine?

I was always busy and on the go . Visited my mom daily in long term care . I was happy.

Q: Would you like to share your reasons for getting vaccinated?

My mom is 84 and in a long term care home. I am her POA and essential care giver. With the new guidelines that came into effect on January 28th - I would not have been allowed to visit my mom without both doses. I also wouldn't have been able to take her out shopping, bring her home to visit or take care of her anymore. This was not right, but as I love my mom - I did what I had to do. I didn’t want the vaccines but I had no choice as I love my mom and she deserves to be taken care of, have visits and come home.

Q: What was your reaction, symptoms, & timeline?

I got my second vaccine on January 25, that night I had major pain in my legs. The next day I had a bad headache and nausea. On the 27th of January, I broke out in welts and rashes everywhere and the itchiness was horrible. I had a massive headache, dizziness, sweats, headache, nausea, chest pains and major pain from my shoulders to my feet. I couldn’t move - it was awful. The nausea and chest pains were gone by the 28th. I had the welts, rashes, itchiness and pain everywhere for about a week and a half. Then it was massive headaches, pain in my muscles from my hips to my feet, muscle spasms and I am exhausted all the time which is still happening today - March 10th.

Q: What is your life like now, after getting the vaccine?

I have suffered every day since. Some days I wish that I would never have gotten the vaccine as I still have pain in my legs, headaches and exhaustion. The pain in my legs is to the point that I have a hard time standing on them often. I have difficulty walking, muscle spasms in my legs, massive headaches and I am exhausted all the time even after a 6-8 sleep.

Q: Share your experience with any medical care and any diagnoses you have received:

I wrote out a daily letter to my doctor with everything that was going on, because he doesn’t do in-office visits. My doctor doesn’t think all the things that happened (and the ones that are still happening) are related to the vaccine, but I had none of these symptoms prior to the second vaccine.

I have had blood work done , a cardiogram and X-rays and there was protein in my urine . The blood work, cardiogram and X-rays were okay but the headaches, muscle pain, leg spasms are still happening and I am so tired.

Q: Was your reaction reported, and what was the response?

I was told to let the eastern Ontario health unit know. I did and they did an investigation which is still on-going until I see my allergy specialist in Ottawa on the 15th of this month.

I was told by the eastern Ontario health unit that the Pfizer that I got on December 21st had expired on October 31st. On January 25th when I went for the second vaccine, the nurse made a mistake and gave me a booster vaccine even after I told her that I was there for my second vaccine. When she realized her mistake, she told me and then told me that she had to give me another booster so it would be a full vaccine. I had asked to get the vaccine in my hips as I get allergy shots once every 3 weeks and collait shots once a month for my asthma . She said that it was fine to have the vaccine in my hips.

When I told the nurse at the eastern Ontario health unit - she asked if she had used a long needle - I told her know that both shots on the 25th were with a small needle. The nurse then said that they should never have given me the 2 shots in my hips. When I mentioned the muscle pain in my legs - the nurse said that the nurse giving her the vaccine could have touched a nerve. The nurse also stated that I should never have been given 2 vaccines on the same day.

Q: Is there anything that has helped, and have your symptoms improved?

Benadryl helped some for the itchiness. I would take 4 extra strength Tylenol every 6 hours for the massive headaches but it didn’t help much and still doesn’t. I took naproxen or aleve for the muscle pain but it didn’t help.

Q: Have you had Covid before?

No - I have been Covid free since the beginning of the pandemic

Q: What do you wish others knew?

That the vaccines have caused many problems in some people.
